Whoo-hoo! My recent post on Facebook looking for friends who work for a company with an employee match program was successful! I received a few messages with great leads and found an awesome neighbor who is going to help us out! Things are looking up in the fundraising world. I really thought the training would be easier than the fundraising, but so far it’s been completely the opposite! Now we’ve got to start planning a few fundraisers.
That gives us 4 months and five days until the big day! Time really is flying by quickly. It’s hard to believe it’s been over a week since our last blog post. The holiday weekend really threw us for a loop, but we were able to get in some quality family time, plenty of chores completed around the house and a little relaxation time too. Bailey and I completed our 3 mile GTS (group training session) on Saturday morning. We followed it up with a quick stop by BB’s bagels and then I went to my normal cycling class after that. Sunday was a rest day…we went to see Hangover 2. Bailey has been running a couple of times since then, I’ve just been cross training. We have a fundraiser meeting today with our TNT (Team in Training) staff member – Amanda. There is an “unofficial” GTS after that, but not sure if we’ll make that. We’re still having the hardest time coordinating our schedules. Oh yeah, on top of that, we have to have 200 fundraising letters written and addressed by Saturday morning! Gotta run (no pun intended)…
Well, we didn’t get our training in again today! This is the last week of school and our schedules are a little chaotic so it’s hard for Bailey and I to plan the time together for a daily training run. There’s no way on Earth that I would be able to get her out of bed to hit the road before I go to work over the summer. Well, she may just change her mind once the heat of June, July and August arrives! I guess the good thing about this particular Fall season for Team in Training is that it seems to be “extended” somewhat, so maybe we have a little time to get on track. If not, we may just have to do some separate training here and there. I have some GREAT news related to yesterday’s post. We sold the patio furniture! That’s a $300 contribution to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society from our neighbors, the Pavley’s! That brings our current fundraising total to $550…Whoo-hoo!
Well, technically, today was not supposed to be a “rest day” according to the training schedule…but somehow it ended up counting as one! Sometimes we just get too busy and our schedules too hectic to squeeze in a training run. We’ve really got to work on that if we’re going to be successful. We did make some progress on our Team in Training fundraising “to-do” list though. As part of our fundraising plan, we are going to sell some of the extra items around our house, with all of the proceeds going directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. To start off, we did a little “house cleaning” in the backyard today. We’re going to be selling our old deck furniture and gas grill. If you may be interested, let us know!
We completed our second GTS (Group Training Session) this morning at the Alpharetta Greenway. 6:30 am comes awfully early on Saturday mornings! We completed three miles, a run/walk combo. We got to meet our Head Coach, Mark Hall, this morning. He spent some time before the run filling us in on some important Team in Training info, tips and tricks. Bailey and I won a $50 contribution towards our fundraising goal by answering a trivia question about the program!
It’s been less than a week since we first started our Team in Training program and we received our first financial contribution today! We haven’t even asked anyone for a donation at this point. The first donation was from Preston Nave and was for a whopping $100! Thanks for the support Preston…Bailey and I really appreciate it!
It’s been a crazy week! School is almost over for the summer and Bailey had a ton of projects for some reason this week. Even though she had plenty to do, we carved out some time to hit the road in our neighborhood. We completed 2.2 miles tonight and it was our first run with quite a few hills along the way. As a matter of fact, it seemed like all of the hills were “up”hill, I don’t remember going down a single one! I guess there will be plenty of opportunities to see if that’s really the case in the days to come…
We’re glad you’re here and super-excited to share our progress over the next few months as we train to run the Savannah Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon in November 5, 2011 AND raise money to help BEAT CANCER through the Team in Training program through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We’re already hard at work training for the event…we started with our first Group Training session this past Saturday at the Alpharetta Greenway. We got in three miles on our first day….just a little more than we bargained for! LOL! We completed two miles on Sunday on the Big Creek Greenway and took Monday off (per our training schedule!) for a rest day. Today, we’re hard at work putting our on-line “presence” together and plotting our fund-raising strategies. Be sure to “like” us on FaceBook, “follow” us on Twitter and check back here often to stay up-to-date on every minute, every mile and every dollar of our journey!
